When we see our current life as a dynamic expression of the myths-in-action, we can use each experience to further understand how our beliefs determine our reality. By what we choose to believe, we make up the story of our life. As we continue to develop our awareness and understand that we can alter our beliefs, we have the ability to create a story in line with who we say we want to be.
We are creating all the time whether cataleptically or consciously. We create by making choices and taking action
consistent with those choices. As shown in the following
diagram, prior to the moment of awareness we are creating
cataleptically—in a trance with loss of sensation and
consciousness, accompanied by rigidity of the body. Here
we live inside the boundaries of the myths. At the moment of
awareness there is a possibility of being unrestricted by the
myths. We are standing in the domain of possibility the
moment we see another reality exists. It exists as possibility
until we make a choice. At the moment of choice we step
into the domain of conscious creation.
As we let go of the need to protect and defend, and choose instead to learn and grow, we learn to not know and to
discover. We put on our beginner mind and keep it on for the
duration of the experiment. Adventure is fun! We can use
this as our new mantra. Our willingness to not know, to step
into life and be in the presence of the fear and uncertainty
and stay true to our hearts allows us to grow and experience
our innocence, which is, at the very least, a major aspect of
our true nature.
It is critical to develop our ability to
stay present in all aspects of the experiment. When we
find that we are reflective about the past or daydreaming about
some future—that something other than the present moment
has captured our attention—that is an indication that we are
not being present and our clue to come back to this moment.
When we notice that we want something, which is distinctly
different from being committed to something, as it implies an
attachment to a thing—the object of our desire—this is another
clue to bring us back to the present.
